How PayPal's fees work in India
When a client abroad pays you through PayPal for your work, PayPal India's published business fees charge 4.4% of the amount plus a fixed $0.30 to receive it. On a $1,000 payment that is $44.30, so $955.70 is left to convert.
PayPal then converts the dollars to rupees and sends them to your Indian bank account. The rate it uses is its own, set below the market rate, and the gap is a cost you do not see as a separate fee. The calculator shows it as an illustrative 3% below the reference rate; your PayPal account shows the exact rate on each payment.
When PayPal is still worth it
PayPal costs more than most other routes, but almost every client abroad already has it, and paying you takes them a minute. For a first project with a new client, that ease can matter more than the fee. As the work becomes regular, compare the other routes on the same amount, because on a monthly fee the difference adds up quickly.
Whichever route you use, keep the payment record your bank or provider gives you for each payment from abroad. The payments guide explains what it is and why you need it.
