The terms for using this site

Last updated on .

Happy Freelancer is run by me, Bharat Devana, from Hyderabad, India. These terms explain what you can expect from the site and what I ask of you when you use it. By reading the articles, using the tools or signing up for the Friday email, you agree to them.

What the articles are

The guides and posts share what I have learned from my own freelancing, from the people I coach, and from research I check against sources. They are general information for experienced professionals, not personal advice for your situation.

In particular, nothing here is financial, tax, legal or immigration advice. Before you act on anything about GST, income tax, foreign payments, contracts or visas, check it with a chartered accountant or a lawyer who knows your case. Rules and fees change, which is why each guide shows the date I last checked it.

No promised results

When I share my own numbers, such as starting at $5 an hour and reaching $150 an hour over eight years, they are what happened to me. They are not a prediction of what will happen to you. Your results depend on your skills, the time you put in, the clients you find and plenty that nobody controls.

The tools

The calculators and other tools give estimates based only on what you type in. They are a starting point for your own thinking, not a quote, an offer or a guarantee. Check the result against your own situation before you rely on it.

Tools and services I recommend

I only recommend tools and services I use myself or trust. Even so, I cannot promise how they will work for you, and I cannot promise that their prices, fees or features will stay the way they are today. Please check the details on their own site before you sign up or pay. If I ever earn a referral fee from a link, the link will be marked as a referral link where it appears.

The templates

You are welcome to use the templates for your own work and with your own clients, and to change them as much as you like. Please do not sell them, or publish them elsewhere as a template of your own.

Using what I have written

The articles, illustrations, tools and the Happy Freelancer name and logo belong to me. You are welcome to quote a short part of an article, as long as you name Happy Freelancer and link to the page you quoted. Please do not copy whole articles or illustrations onto another site, into a course, or into an AI training set.

The Friday email

The Friday email is free. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every email. How your email address is handled is explained on the Privacy page.

Other sites

Articles link to other sites so you can check facts for yourself. I do not control those sites, and I am not responsible for what they say or do.

Mistakes and limits

I work hard to keep every fact correct and every source current. If you find a mistake, please tell me in a message on LinkedIn (opens in a new tab) and I will fix it.

The site is offered as it is. As far as the law allows, I am not responsible for any loss that comes from acting on something you read or calculated here, which is why the checks above matter.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the laws of India. If a disagreement ever needs a court, the courts in Hyderabad, Telangana will handle it. Before that, please send me a message on LinkedIn (opens in a new tab), because most problems are easier to fix with a conversation.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, I will update this page and the date at the top. Using the site after that means you accept the new version.
